A Moment of Honesty: What I Complain About the Most

What do you complain about the most?

Hey crew! Dog House here. How has your week been?

We’ve been a bit quiet lately, and we wanted to reach out and fill you in on why. While we had an incredible time on our recent road trip, we ended up heading home a little earlier than planned. Our sweet senior girl, Peaches, has developed a health condition that requires an operation.

As much as we love the open road and open seas getting Peaches back to 100% is our absolute top priority.

People often ask us what the hardest part of our lifestyle is. If I’m being honest, the thing I complain about the most is the “Senior Dog Paradox.” I complain that time moves too fast. I complain that these loyal companions, who have seen us through every high and low, don’t get the same 80+ years that we do. It’s frustrating when their spirits are still ready for an adventure, but their bodies need a break. Navigating the vet visits, the sudden health scares, and the steep medical bills is the “un-glamorous” side of our lifestyle that we don’t always show but it’s the part that matters most.

Our Plan for the Coming Weeks

Because we’ve chosen to put the keys away for a moment to focus on family, here is what the near future looks like for the Dog House:

  • The Recovery Phase: We’re taking a temporary break from traveling and sailing to focus entirely on Peaches’ surgery and her healing process.
  • The Online Hustle: While we’re stationary, we’ll be leaning into our online gigs to help cover these unexpected vet bills.
  • The Comeback: Don’t worry the journey isn’t over! We already have some exciting plans lined up for as soon as Peaches is cleared for duty.

We’ll do our best to keep you updated on her progress as she heals. We truly appreciate this community and your support more than words can say.

Postcards from the Road

In the meantime, we didn’t want to leave you without a little bit of wanderlust! Here are some of our favorite captured moments from our Dog-Friendly California Road Trip. Seeing Peaches enjoy these views is exactly why we do what we do.
